Winter Fun

In my book, there’s no better way to spend a chilly afternoon than cleaning out one’s closets. I know that when I open that closet door and see all my shoes or knick-knacks or towels or what have you lined up smiling in a row, it almost makes it feel like springtime in my heart.

Now, you can buy lots of fancy organizers for your closets; they have them for shoes, for jewelry. They have bins of every size. And by the time you bought all these different bins, you’d have nothing to put in them, because you’d have to sell all of your belongings to afford them all. So, I’m going to share with you my special organizing secret to success. And the best part,is that you don’t have to mortgage your house to have organized storage.

The secret is egg cartons.

And now, by special request, my beef stew recipe!

Cobblepease’s Beef Stew

Makes 8 servings

3 Tb. olive oil

3 carrots, peeled and diced

3 stalks celery

1 yellow onion, diced

8 c. water

4 c. potatoes, peeled and diced

2 c. frozen peas

½ tsp dried sage

½ tsp dried thyme

salt and pepper to taste

Heat olive oil in large cast-iron skillet and when sizzling, sauté carrots, celery and onion until fragrant and tender. Transfer to large stew pot and add remaining ingredients. Simmer ingredients together until your stories are over.

Pairs well with saltine crackers!
